A Setup On The Sabbath Sermon for August 4th, 2024
A Setup On The Sabbath - This Communion Sunday, Pastor Paul is looking at Mark 3:1-6. Jesus encounters a man with a withered hand in the synagogue, and despite the critical eyes of the Pharisees, He heals the man on the Sabbath. This event is not just a miraculous healing; it's a deliberate moment created by Jesus to teach about the heart of the Sabbath and God's intentions for law and mercy. Facing a group of religious leaders more concerned with legalism than with compassion, Jesus poses a profound question: “Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath, or to do harm, to save life or to kill?” His actions and words starkly contrast the life-giving nature of God's commands with the deadly legalism of human traditions.
